Blank Word Search Template for making your own word search. Simply choose one of five graded grids, and print it off. It’s easy!

This word search puzzle template is free to use and download. I’ve designed five sizes - a "starter" blank word search template with a 6 x 7 square grid, moving up to a more advanced template for 20 words in a 15 x 16 square grid.

It’s easy to make your own word search puzzle!

First choose your topic - for example "The Summer" - and write in the heading space.

Next choose the correct number of words suitable for the blank word search grid you’re working on, and write them in the empty boxes at the top.

Scatter these words around the grid. I usually put them across the grid, down it or diagonally across it.

Finally 'hide' these words by putting in random letters to fill in the gaps. I often do a few false leads eg. if one of your words is 'swimming', you could start 'swim' off but then continue with other letters not in the word.

Photocopy your word search if more than one person is going to do it. If you're using it for a mixed ability class in school, it might be better having a few levels available.
