Some parts of the world seem to be getting very excited about the Kindle Reader!
So what is a Kindle Reader?
A Kindle is a Wireless Reading Device.
It allows you to read books, international newspapers, magazines and blogs that have been delivered to your kindle electronically. You do not need a computer.
Is it helpful for those with reading difficulties?
Does the Kindle make reading more accessible?
I say yes!
I believe that the Kindle will be really useful for people with
- dyslexia
- eye problems
- fine motor difficulties
Let’s have a look at a few of the features in relation to the above.
Font Size On the Kindle
Firstly the size of the font can be increased so that every book you download can be in large print.
In fact there are eight different font sizes to choose from.
You can increase the text size of your favourite ebook or periodical with the push of a button. If your eyes tire, simply increase the font size and continue reading comfortably. Now every ebook in your library can be large print.
The Kindle is lightweight
If holding the book is a problem, the Kindle is lightweight as well as being thinner than the average magazine.
It weighs less than a paperback so no more struggling to hold the Complete Works of Jane Austen!
Kindle's page-turning buttons are located on both sides, allowing you to read and turn pages from any position.
Kindle Text To Speech
With Text-to-Speech, Kindle can read English-language content out loud to you. Pages automatically turn while the content is being read, so you can listen hands-free.
There is even a Voice Guide
Text-to-speech enabled menus allow customers to navigate Kindle without having to read menu options. In addition to listening to ebooks aloud, users now have the option of listening to content listings on the home screen, item descriptions, and all menu options.
Built In Dictionary!
Kindle includes The Oxford Dictionary of English with over 250,000 entries and definitions, so you can seamlessly look up the definitions of English words without interrupting your reading. Come across a word you don't know? Simply move the cursor to it and the definition will automatically display at the bottom of the screen. Never fear a sesquipedalian word again – simply look it up and keep reading!
