Pattern focus: oo words

• start with Group A and sort into onset and rhyme, grouping all the words with same endings
• the hardest word in these lists is probably 'school' because of the unfamiliar 'sch'. This may take a bit of practice before it is learnt
• 'oo' is often a pattern that children remember well (unlike 'igh' for example). Even so, linking as many words into a sentence is often fun and challenging.
  
  For example, the cook book is cool - he shook it as he stood on the stool and had a look into the school room . . .
  
  It's important that the child makes up the sentence and has fun doing so. The weirder the sentence the more memorable it will be. Only fuss about the correct spelling of the 'oo' words - you can write any other tricky words.
• never assume that because you've covered this pattern in a lesson, it has been remembered. You may need to return frequently and practise writing the words.
